Komtar
Komtar is the most famous landmark in Penang, being the tallest building on the island. Located in the centre of George Town, Komtar mall has four levels and is air-conditioned. Besides an abundance of small local shops there are two department stores: Superkomtar and Yoahan.
The main building rises 64-floors containing mostly offices. In the centre of the mall at the tourist information, you can purchase tickets for the elevator, it's worth a ride to the top for the panoramic view, you can easily see the Penang bridge and Butterworth on the mainland.
At street level there's a bus station. For those staying at the Golden Sands Hotel take the shuttle bus in to town, it also stops at the Shangri La Hotel in the centre of George Town.
There are numerous Trishaws plying for trade, its worth bartering for a ride around George Town, should be about RM30 for an hours ride, a lot chaeper to the tourist rip off prices in Batu Ferringi
In the Komtar there are several cinemas showing the latest movies, plus numerous western fast food franchises and local Malaysian restaurants with in the complex.
